Kanyaa=

 कन्या वरयते रूपं माता वित्तं पिता श्रुतम्

बान्धवा: कुलमिच्छब्ति मिष्ठान्ने इतेरे जनाः

Kanyaa varayate roopam maata vittam pitaa shrutam

Bandhawah kulmichhanti mishthanne itero janaah.

i.e. The choice of a daughter about her prospective groom is that he should be handsome, whereas the preference of her mother is that he should be wealthy, and her father's preference is that he should be well educated. The choice of her other relatives is high social status of the groom's family, whereas other acquaintances are concerned only with getting a lavish feast at the time of marriage.

Kanyaa= a young girl. Varayate = selects, chooses, prefers. Roopam = Beautiful appearance

Vittam = money, wealth. Pitaa= father. Shrutam = Vedas.(here it means well educated)

Baandhawah = relatives. Kula = a clan or a family in society. Mishthanna = sweets.

Icchanti = wishes, desires. Itarey = other. Janaah = persons.

( The underlying idea in this Subhashit is that there is a wide variance in the choice of different persons for a thing,depending upon their age, outlook,attitude, social status, worldly experience etc.)
