Importance of Fasting

🔥 *Importance of Fasting on Ekadashi*

(Tomorrow being Ekadashi sending some useful info here, if u haven't tried it you may begin this time..its easy 👍)

If you observe your system(body) you will see that every 14 days, there will be a day or so when the body can easily go without food. Eating forcibly on those days is not a good thing to do. Since people struggled with this awareness, so on the spiritual path they fixed the day as Ekadashi..which comes once in every 14 days. On this day, people were encouraged to fast...you might have seen your grandparents do this ...though the awareness of this is being lost nowadays.

Apart from many health benefits which can be gained by fasting regularly, fasting is also a huge suppport in building inner strength which helps you to glide through life effortlessly and not fall at every obstacle which comes your way.

At Isha, every Ekadashi people are encouraged to fast for 24 hours...which means that if today is Ekadashi, they would have eaten dinner the previous night and the next meal they have after that is dinner on Ekadashi night - so 24 hours fast. Most of them can sustain this fast on just water. If they are not able to sustain then its better to go on a fruit diet which will be supportive. On Ekadashi night, usually they have a lighter meal if with more of fruits, porridge/kanji, vegetables etc

So try to experiment with this and see how your body feels. Those of you who are starting, you might find it difficult initially ...if thats so, go on a fruit diet and gradually over a few Ekadashi's try to see if you can bring down the food consumed.

*If you are healthy then keeping up with this fast shouldnt be a problem*. But for most people fasting is not a challenge because of issues with the body but because of their mental struggles - *_whenever they want to fast, bondas are flying all over their mind_* 😃 So if you are in such a condition, then you should definitely fast!

*Also amla or gooseberry helps to ward off hunger..so you could even chew on it during Ekadashi* 😃

Also since you are fasting, thats not a day to take rest!

*The main aim of Ekadashi is to keep the needs of ur body to bare minimum and bring your consciousness even more closer to God.*
